Brewers Take 2–0 World Series Lead Into Tampa Bay
Milwaukee won two one-run games at home, 3–2 and 5–4, and the series shifts to Tampa Bay for Game 3 on Monday, Oct. 26.
The Milwaukee Brewers won both World Series games at American Family Field by a single run and head to Tampa Bay leading the Rays two games to none.
Game 2: Brewers 5, Rays 4
Tampa Bay jumped out to a 4–0 lead in the first inning Saturday, Oct. 24, according to WSAW-TV. Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero drove in runs with singles, and Liam Hicks homered to right-center.
Milwaukee chipped back. William Contreras and Garrett Mitchell each drove in a run, and Cooper Pratt scored in the fourth on an error by Jonathan Aranda to make it 4–3, WSAW reported.
Sal Frelick tied the game with a 408-foot solo homer in the sixth. Pratt then singled home Brice Turang with the go-ahead run.
In the eighth, Jackson Chourio was thrown out at home. Milwaukee challenged, and the replay review upheld the out.
Game 1: Brewers 3, Rays 2
Milwaukee scored twice in the first inning Friday, Oct. 23, according to The Associated Press. Chourio singled, Christian Yelich tripled him home and Contreras singled in Yelich.
Starter Jacob Misiorowski opened the game with a 103.5 mph pitch, the fastest ever thrown in a World Series, the AP reported. He allowed one run on four hits in five innings. Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby followed with three scoreless innings and five strikeouts.
Chourio's two-out single in the seventh scored Pratt for a 3–1 lead.
The ninth got tense. A Hicks grounder looked like a game-ending double play, but video review showed Pratt's foot came off second base, the AP reported. Tampa Bay scored to make it 3–2 and put runners on second and third before closer Trevor Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca.
"Not perfect, but good enough to get a win," Misiorowski said, according to the AP.
How they got here
The Brewers won 103 games, the best record in the majors, according to Cox Media Group. They beat San Diego in five games in the NL Division Series and swept the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Championship Series.
It is Milwaukee's first World Series since 1982, when it lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.
Tampa Bay swept the New York Yankees in the ALDS and beat Cleveland in six games in the ALCS.
What's next
Game 3 is Monday, Oct. 26, at 8 p.m. Eastern in Tampa Bay, followed by Game 4 on Oct. 27 and, if necessary, Game 5 on Oct. 28, according to Cox Media Group. Any Games 6 and 7 would be played in Milwaukee on Oct. 30 and 31.
