The Despoiler is written for the people of the Dayton area. We follow who owns what, who decides, and what it costs us, from the grocery aisle to Wright-Patt to the Statehouse, so neighbors can see the bigger picture from right here.

How we work

• News and opinion stay separate. Every opinion piece is labeled; trackers and news stories carry no editorializing.
• Bylines and dates on every story, and an as-of date on every tracker.
• Sourcing. We link or name the documents, data and outlets behind every story. Briefs are short summaries of the credited outlets' reporting.
• Politics are reported from what people say and do on the record.
• No leaked or hacked personal data, and we leave minors out of the news.
• Push alerts are rare: edition nights and real breaking news only.

Every fix is noted here with the date, never quietly changed.
